Video Poker is one of the most popular forms of gambling in the world today. Based on the basic five-card draw poker game, there are usually a number of variants such as jacks or better, deuces wild, bonus poker and so on.
When played properly Online Video Poker is a game with a comparatively very low house edge, but to play it properly requires skill and discipline, making it one of the most interesting casino games around.
Video Poker History
Video Poker first hit casinos in the seventies, which was basically when the first central processing units capable of performing the necessary computations were made small enough to fit into slot machine sized units.
When the first video poker machines were released they became an instant hit, partly because they tended to offer lower denomination play, and partly because they were less daunting to nervous gamblers than the tables. They quickly spread and remain one of the most popular casino games today.
Video Poker - Rules
The basics of Video Poker couldn’t be simpler. You put your money into the machine, decide what game you want to play (jacks or better, deuces wild etc), decide what denomination you wish to bet, and press deal. At this point you may wager no more money until the next hand.
Five randomly generated cards will then be dealt to you. You must now decide whether or not to change any of these cards, and if so, which ones. You may change all or none of your cards, at which point the computer will work out the value of your hand and pay out accordingly. |
